OPERATOR 5 Series First Aid Kit Backpack

The OPERATOR™ 5 Series First Aid Kit Backpack AFAK5B is a stocked, high-capacity first aid kit backpack for mobile workplace response.

It is made for remote sites, outdoor work, construction, industrial areas, large low-risk teams and higher-risk work settings. The backpack design keeps key first aid supplies close while the responder moves between areas.

The soft backpack measures 44 cm × 36 cm × 11 cm. It gives teams portable access to wound care, burns supplies, eye care, CPR support, bandages, dressings, gloves and key first aid tools.

This kit covers up to 50 people in low-risk settings and up to 25 people in high-risk settings when chosen as part of a workplace first aid risk assessment.

Important: This page gives general product information only. It does not take the place of first aid training, medical advice, emergency care, or a workplace first aid risk assessment. In an emergency in Australia, call 000.

Is This the Right First Aid Kit for You?

Choose this kit if your team needs a portable workplace first aid kit with broad stock and hands-free carry.

This kit may suit

Choose extra or specialist aid kits if

Low-risk sites up to 50 people

You need cover for more people

High-risk sites up to 25 people

Your risk assessment shows extra stock is needed

Construction and outdoor work

You need trauma gear, rescue gear or AED access

Remote or mobile teams

Staff work far from emergency help

Warehouses and workshops

You have chemical, machine or eye injury risks

Field crews and site vehicles

You need a wall-mounted kit at a fixed location

Education grounds keeping

You supervise large groups or high-risk activities

Sites with snake or spider bite risk

You need more bite-specific supplies

A first aid kit alone does not make a fully compliant workplace. Your kit should match your work, staff numbers, hazards, site layout and access to help.

Safe Work Australia says each workplace must have at least one first aid kit. It also says more kits may be needed when a workplace is spread out or when workers travel for the job. Kits should be easy to see, easy to reach and checked often.

Why Choose a First Aid Backpack?

A first aid backpack helps a responder stay mobile.

This matters on large worksites, outdoor areas, vehicle-based jobs and remote sites. A backpack keeps supplies close without tying up both hands.

The OPERATOR™ 5 Series is built for teams that may need to move fast. It gives easy access to a wide range of first aid equipment in one portable format.

The backpack is useful for:

  • walking between work zones
  • responding across a large site
  • carrying supplies to a vehicle or field area
  • supporting mobile crews
  • keeping stock together during travel
  • giving first aiders hands-free movement

Best Uses for This Kit

Construction, Outdoor Work and Remote Locations

This kit suits active work areas where a fixed kit may not be close enough. It can help teams respond to cuts, grazes, burns, eye irritation, sprains, larger wounds and other common workplace injuries.

For remote or higher-risk work, your workplace may still need extra kits, trained first aiders, AED access, rescue plans or special first aid supplies.

Warehouses, Workshops and Industrial Sites

Busy worksites need supplies that are easy to carry and easy to find. This first aid backpack can support staff across workshops, warehouses, factories and production spaces.

Use your workplace first aid risk assessment to decide whether you also need fixed kits, eyewash stations, burn modules, spill response items or more stock.

Vehicles, Field Crews and Mobile Teams

The backpack format suits field crews, fleet vehicles and teams that travel between jobs.

Keep the kit secure in the vehicle. Keep it away from heat where possible. Check the contents often if the kit travels daily.

Offices, Schools and Community Facilities

This kit may also suit offices, schools and community spaces that want more cover than a smaller basic first aid kit.

For large groups or complex sites, use it beside other aid kits, signs, first aid procedures and trained first aiders.

What This First Aid Kit Can Help With

This backpack has first aid supplies and first aid equipment for common workplace and mobile team needs, such as:

  • cuts and grazes
  • minor injuries
  • initial support for larger wounds
  • burns
  • eye injury
  • snake bite
  • spider bite
  • dressing and bandaging
  • basic bleeding support
  • CPR barrier support
  • sprains, bumps and strains
  • splinters
  • incident notes
  • first aid checklist use

To help control bleeding, use the right pads, dressings and bandages. Get urgent help if bleeding is serious, does not stop, or the person shows signs of shock.

What This Kit Does Not Cover

This kit does not cover every emergency.

It is not an AED. It is not a full trauma response system. It does not replace trained first aiders, emergency care, medical advice or workplace safety steps.

You may need extra aid kits or specialist items for:

  • very large sites
  • remote trauma risks
  • mining or rescue work
  • chemical exposure
  • serious eye hazards
  • high burn risk
  • AED access
  • marine injuries
  • confined spaces
  • frequent sports injuries
  • known medical needs
  • large public events
  • specialist rescue situations

Call 000 for severe bleeding, trouble breathing, snake bite, anaphylaxis, major burns, serious eye injury, loss of awareness, or any injury that looks serious.

Workplace Safety Notes

This kit can help support workplace first aid readiness when it is stocked, checked, carried and matched to your site risks.

A workplace may need more than one kit. You may also need trained first aiders, signs, AED equipment, eye wash stations, burn modules, first aid procedures or a first aid room.

Your workplace first aid risk assessment should look at:

  • type of work
  • hazards
  • worker numbers
  • visitors
  • site size
  • vehicles
  • remote areas
  • access to emergency help
  • burns risks
  • eye injury risks
  • snake bite risks
  • spider bite risks
  • training needs
  • refill process

Safe Work Australia’s Model Code of Practice covers first aid kits, procedures, facilities and training for first aiders. It also explains how workplaces should work out their first aid needs.

For Victorian employers, WorkSafe Victoria’s compliance code gives practical guidance on first aid facilities, kits, first aid rooms, first aid officers, training and workplace steps.

How to Check and Restock This Kit

Keep your kit clean, stocked and easy to reach.

Check the contents after each use. In busy workplaces, complete a first aid checklist every 3–6 months.

During your aid checklist, check for:

  • used stock
  • missing items
  • expired burn gel
  • expired eye wash
  • expired antiseptic spray
  • opened sterile dressings
  • damaged pads
  • dirty gloves
  • low plasters or bandaids
  • low bandages
  • low gauze
  • low dressings
  • damaged tools
  • missing CPR card
  • missing first aid leaflet
  • damaged zips or straps
  • wet or dusty contents

Replace used, opened, dirty, damaged or expired items.

Healthdirect says a stocked first aid kit can help in an emergency or accident. Its guidance covers first aid kit supplies, storage and use at home, work and in cars.

Medicines and Antiseptic Items

This is a stocked first aid kit with antiseptic spray.

Follow product labels and directions for use.

Handle medicine and medicated items with care. Workplace kits are different from home or personal kits.

Do not add extra medicine to workplace kits unless your policies and risk assessment allow it.

Personal medicine, asthma inhalers, allergy medicine or items ordered by a doctor should follow the person’s action plan. Ask a doctor or pharmacist for advice if needed.

ARTG and Medical Device Notes

This kit has ARTG ID 406543 and is listed as a Class 2a medical device.

The TGA says medical devices are included in the Australian Register of Therapeutic Goods as a kind of medical device. It also says Class IIa devices are low-to-moderate risk devices and need conformity assessment certification before ARTG inclusion.
