Certificate III in Basic Health Care

Course Description

The HLT31220 Certificate III in Basic Health Care is designed for individuals who are looking to deepen their expertise in providing emergency and first responder care. This qualification goes beyond standard first aid training, offering a comprehensive understanding of advanced first aid, clinical health knowledge, and workplace safety. It is ideal for those in roles such as School First Aid Coordinators, First Responders, or anyone looking to expand their capabilities in a healthcare setting without the need for formal Nursing or Paramedic qualifications.

Key Learning Areas: Participants in this course will gain critical skills in advanced first aid, including the ability to provide advanced resuscitation and oxygen therapy. The Advanced First Aid and Resuscitation Cluster covers units such as HLTAID014 Provide Advanced First Aid, HLTAID011 Provide First Aid, and HLTAID015 Provide Advanced Resuscitation and Oxygen Therapy. These units ensure that you can respond effectively to a wide range of emergencies, making you an invaluable asset in high-stakes situations.

In the Clinical Cluster, you will learn to interpret and apply medical terminology (BSBMED301) and recognize healthy body systems (HLTAAP001). These skills are crucial for anyone who needs to communicate effectively with healthcare professionals and understand the basics of human anatomy and physiology. This knowledge forms the foundation of effective patient care, enabling you to better assess and manage health situations.

The Communications Cluster focuses on the interpersonal skills necessary for working in diverse and often high-pressure environments. Units such as CHCDIV001 Work with Diverse People and HLTOUT010 Communicate in Complex Situations to Support Health Care are designed to help you navigate complex social interactions and manage personal stressors (HLTWHS006) that may arise in the work environment. These skills are essential for maintaining a professional demeanor and ensuring effective communication in stressful situations.

Finally, the Workplace Health and Safety (WHS) Cluster emphasizes the importance of maintaining a safe working environment. Through units like HLTWHS005 Conduct Manual Tasks Safely and HLTINF006 Apply Basic Principles and Practices of Infection Prevention and Control, you will be equipped with the knowledge to protect yourself and others from potential hazards. This focus on safety is particularly relevant for those working in environments where physical safety and infection control are paramount.

By completing the HLT31220 Certificate III in Basic Health Care, you will not only enhance your first aid and healthcare knowledge but also position yourself as a more capable and confident first responder. These first aid courses open up opportunities for those looking to take on more responsibility in their current roles or to pursue further studies in the healthcare sector.
