Course Description
The HLTFSE005 – Apply and Monitor Food Safety Requirements course is designed for individuals who are responsible for monitoring and controlling food safety hazards and responding to non-conformance in the workplace. It is particularly relevant for those working in the health and community sectors, where food is prepared and provided to vulnerable groups such as the elderly, infants, children, pregnant women, and people with medical conditions, immune deficiencies, or allergies.
Participants are required to demonstrate their competency through a third-party observation form, verifying their ability to apply food safety procedures in real or simulated environments. Suitable workplaces include commercial kitchens, catering production lines, or other food preparation facilities with industry-standard equipment. Observations can also be undertaken through volunteer opportunities in community centres, local councils, or sports clubs.
Important: Students must be employed in, or secure a volunteer role within, a suitable food handling environment where a third-party observer can be nominated. The observer is responsible for witnessing and documenting the student’s demonstrations of competency using the provided third-party report form.
