New Trainer Program 2021

Australian Pacific Training Solution – New Trainer Program

Background: Australian Pacific Training Solutions is one of the leading providers of First Aid and Safety Training in Victoria. We currently deliver training to approximately 30,000 individuals per year in all types of workplaces.

One of the greatest strengths of Australian Pacific Training Solutions has been the expectational trainers we employ to deliver our training programs. As we continue to experience significant growth, we require more Trainers to join our Team.

For several years now Australian Pacific Training Solutions has run a New Trainers Program. This program involves running a Certificate IV in Training and Assessment course for a group of new trainers who have the clinical/industry knowledge but lack the qualifications to be registered trainers. In addition to gaining the training and assessment qualification, new trainers will undertake the necessary training courses as well as undertake a mentoring program to prepare them to run their own training courses. This is a pathway to extend your skills and increase employment opportunities.

If selected for this program, Australian Pacific Training Solutions (APTS) will cover all costs associated with this qualification and other units undertaken (normally more than $3,000) and in return we ask that, once qualified, Trainers deliver 4 full days of Training (or equivalent) at no cost to APTS.

All trainers entering into this Program will be employed by APTS as casual training staff following the successful completion of the program and it is hoped that they will continue to deliver training on an ongoing basis to clients all throughout Victoria.

Working at APTS: Once successfully completing the New Trainer Program, trainers will be available to take up trainer bookings with APTS.

Due to the large volume of clients and courses there are a huge range of available shifts that can easily fit in around other commitments such as university study or other employment. When shifts are available, they are offered out to all trainers and trainers can choose to make themselves available. There is no minimum or maximum amount of work required however most trainers will take up 2 to 3 bookings a week.

When delivering training for APTS, trainers are provided with all the necessary equipment and uniforms for the courses they are delivering.  Additionally, trainers are provided all paperwork and course processing is taken care of by our Administration Team. Therefore, trainers can focus on the delivery of quality Training and Assessment to clients of APTS.

Certificate IV in Training and Assessment

The Certificate IV in Training and Assessment is facilitated by HBA Learning. It will be run over 5 consecutive Saturdays at our Mordialloc Office. The delivery mode is known as “self-paced PLUS”. This means it involves the 5-day introductory workshop to gain the underpinning knowledge necessary to commence the course with confidence (Self-paced).

In the 5-day introductory workshop you will review assessment activities which prepare you for the assessment tasks you must complete to be found Competent in the 10 Units of Competency that form the qualification.

Following each workshop day, and the completion of the 5 days of workshops, the student will be expected to complete independent work at home as well as participate in a practical delivery day (facilitated by APTS). This will involve a time commitment from each student however, as it is independent study, it is hard to put an exact time on this amount of work.

To assist students, we will also have a 1-day workshop approximately 6 weeks after the final workshop day. This is a chance for those who have not yet completed and submitted their work to touch bases with their Trainer and seek clarification on any outstanding work. It is expected that students commit enough time to complete their final submission within 3 months of the course.

Trainers will not be able to commence paid work with APTS until they successfully complete the Certificate IV in Training and Assessment (TAE40116).

Advantages of Certificate IV in Training and Assessment

This qualification is an underpinning qualification in adult education. As well as being a mandatory requirement for delivering Nationally Recognised Training through a Registered Training Organisation many employers value this qualification highly as it equips the individual with skills to be a workplace trainer or mentor.

Mentoring Sessions

In addition to the Certificate IV in Training and Assessment participants in the New Trainer Program will be asked to attend 1 day of Assessment in order to obtain the required Nationally Recognised Qualifications (these would normally cost more than $600).

Participants will also be required to observe experienced Trainers delivering at least 2 sessions. This is a vital part of the induction and also a great assistance when completing the TAE40116 as it enables the participant to prepare for life as a trainer. These observation shifts are not paid shifts and can be fitted around existing commitments.

Once the participant has gained the TAE40116 and been approved as a Trainer their first few shifts will be delivered in tandem with an experienced Trainer. These are paid (or contribute to the 4 shifts required) and the trainer will be contributing to the student/trainer ratios. This provides the new trainer the opportunity to hone their skills as a Trainer with the support of colleagues.

Once trainers complete all elements of the mentoring program, they will be available to nominate for any available shifts for APTS.

Summary: This program has been highly successful for both APTS and the individuals involved over a number of years. We have had a great success with participants developing the skills and knowledge required to be exceptional trainers. Many of the participants in the program have gone on to be long term Trainers with APTS. In addition to this, most Participants have identified that this has been a significant advantage when applying for jobs in their chosen careers (example Paramedic or Nursing careers).

We invest heavily in this program and are looking for enthusiastic and motivated applicants to join our tight knit team.
